Repair of cones and side cuts

Repair of cones and side cuts

The low quality of the road surface in our beloved state sometimes leads to the appearance of bumps and side cuts on the surface of the tire. Usually, a bump appears as a result of a strong impact due to the rupture of the inner radial cord of the tire. Side cuts and bumps can lead to an emergency situation on the road.

The main motivation for repairing bumps and side cuts is safety.

Bumps and side cuts can be formed when the wheel comes into contact with sharp objects and bumps on the road surface. In addition, cones have a tendency to explode, which can be dangerous for you and other road users! Repairing bumps and side cuts will help eliminate these dangerous elements and increase road safety.

Is it possible to drive with bumps on the wheel?

Driving with bumps and side cuts on tires is not recommended, especially if the damage is significant. First, tire damage can continue to develop if the problem is not addressed immediately. The bump is caused by a rupture of the inner cord, which will spread over time, so a special patch must be installed to stop this process or repair the cord. Second, uneven tire wear occurs due to improper load on tires caused by bumps. As a result, the service life of such a tire becomes significantly shorter. Third, at a speed of 110km/h or more, the tire can easily explode! It is important to remember that it is not recommended to put wheels with such problems on the front axle of the car, because when the wheel breaks, you will not be able to handle the steering, and most likely, the consequences will be tragic.

So, you can drive with cones, but such wheels must be placed behind and be sure to observe low speeds of no more than 110 km/h.

Recommendations on how to avoid tire damage

Of course, we cannot provide a full guarantee regarding the preservation of the condition of the tire. But we can emphasize the basic rules that will help to avoid problems with tires.

  1. Maintaining the correct tire pressure - vehicle manufacturers usually provide this information in service manuals, on the gas tank cap or even on the body in the area of the driver's door. Usually, there are recommended pressure values for normal operating conditions, as well as for maximum load. Tire pressure is subject to change depending on the surrounding air temperature. When the temperature drops, the pressure also decreases because the air inside the tire is compressed. Similarly, the pressure increases when the temperature rises. It goes without saying that our recommendation may be to overinflate the tires a little, for example on the 10-20%. This can increase their resistance to such changes.
  2. Consider the dimensions of the car – always remember the dimensions of your vehicle, especially when entering tight or confined spaces. Be careful when driving under low crossings or narrow passages to avoid collisions with ceilings, walls or other obstacles.
  3. Regular maintenance – keep your vehicle in good technical condition, including proper brakes, steering and suspension. Proper functioning of these systems will help avoid unforeseen situations on the road that can lead to damage.

Stages of repair

Repairing dents and side cuts on a car involves several steps that help restore the damaged area. However, we do not recommend repairing side cuts longer than 5 centimeters, it is dangerous to operate a car with such repairs. Here are the steps that are often taken when repairing bumps and side cuts:

  • Damage assessment: The first stage is damage assessment. The master conducts a detailed inspection of bumps and side cuts, determines their size, depth and degree of damage. This helps establish an optimal repair plan.
  • Repair damage: Depending on the type of damage and its extent, appropriate repair methods are used. For example, high-temperature welding technology is used, the essence of which is to repair damage using special tools and pressing techniques. Also, in some cases, it is necessary to apply special patches.
  • The final stage: After repairing side cuts and other tire damage, we provide a wheel balancing service. Our masters perform this process on high-precision equipment.
